Heading into the Wooster meet, the Wadsworth High School Gymnastics team had only lost one meet in the Suburban League and none in the Northeast Gymnastics Conference.
This would be the last regular meet of the season and they wanted to make it a memorable one. They knew that the competition would be tough at Wooster, so they knew they had to give it their all. A conference title was at stake, and no one wanted to go home without that coveted trophy. Countless hours of practice all led to this meet.
For freshman Caitlyn McDougal, this was the chance to end her regular season on a high note. Caitlyn had an exceptional season as a freshman with many first place finishes along the way. This meet was no exception.
“I knew going into this meet that my scores were very important in helping to carry the team to victory. I was prepared to give it my all,” said McDougal.
She did just that and took first place on vault, balance beam, floor routine, and first place all around. These results helped Wadsworth advance past Wooster with a score of 126.55 to 124.85.
“It was the best feeling in the world. It was a tough meet, but we knew we could do it. We didn’t give up when the competition got intense,” added McDougal.
As a result, Wadsworth brought home the NEGC Conference Title and the trophy, which is now proudly displayed at the high school.
